Inverclyde’s leading property business, Bowman Rebecchi has announced an expansion to its internship programme for young people aged 16-18 in partnership with Career Ready – a national social mobility charity that supports young people to get into work.

The programme provides support to young people as they transition from S5 into S6 with a paid, 4-week internship this summer, alongside 18 months of mentoring support from the business.

The Home of Property has welcomed Calum McBeth and Rio Mason (pictured) in 2023-24, with the internship taking place across June and July 2024 based at Bowman Rebecchi’s office in Gourock, covering a variety of departments, including residential and commercial property, architectural services, advertising, and marketing.

Bowman Rebecchi initially launched its programme in 2022, with Port Glasgow High School pupil Jack Crombie the first to complete the internship, which supports over 1,200 young people through a targeted programme of paid internships, mentoring, workplace visits, and skills masterclasses.

Chelsy Learie and Rhys Morgan both graduate from the 2023 Career Ready programme this month thanks to support from the Gourock-based property firm.

Working within the team and supported by a dedicated line manager and mentor, this year's interns will have the opportunity to meet and network with colleagues, develop important employability skills, and contribute to team projects.

The Bowman Rebecchi group is also committed to tackling the cost-of-living crisis with a Fair Work approach, ensuring its team including its interns are paid at least the Real Living Wage - currently £12.00 per hour in Scotland.

Andrew Bowman, co-founder of Bowman Rebecchi said:

“We are delighted to welcome both Calum and Rio to the business following the success of the programme.

“Investing back into the community and providing opportunities to local residents is something that we are very passionate about at Bowman Rebecchi.

“We are aiming to further develop the programme and hope to provide and welcome further local talent consistently alongside Career Ready and Developing the Young Workforce.”

Career Ready is a UK-wide social mobility charity that links schools and colleges with employers to help prepare young people for the world of work.

Based in Gourock, Bowman Rebecchi provides specialist commercial and residential lettings, sales, and management services across west-central Scotland, managing over 1,300 properties across west and central Scotland.

Anne Wexelstein, Career Ready Director for Scotland said:

“We’d like to thank Bowman Rebecchi and their staff for continuing to work with us to invest in young talent.

“Paid internships are key in helping young people develop the workplace skills and confidence they need to succeed in the world of work.

“I’m always encouraging other businesses to join Bowman Rebecchi in giving these young people the opportunities and support they need and contributing to making real The Young Person’s Guarantee.”

Statistics show that 98% of Career Ready students go on to sustained work, education, or apprenticeships following the programme and research carried out by Opinium.

Across the UK, over 1,200 young people are currently experiencing paid internships with a network of 300 employers.
